The Catastrophic Pool is a voluntary program designed to allow eligible employees to donate sick and vacation leave hours directly from one employee to another during catastrophic circumstances. This program works solely when our employees willingly donate hours to their fellow employees during a time of need. Catastrophic circumstance may include, but are not limited to, extended hospital stay due to illness or the result of an accident, recuperation time at home, or physical/occupational therapy for recovery.
The employee in need is eligible only after the employee has exhausted all of his/her personal sick/vacation accrued leave.
Unlike the Sick Leave Pool Program, this program allows the donation of hours not only for the employee but for the employee’s immediate family member. For the purpose of this policy, immediate family is defined as spouse, child(ren) (including foster and stepchildren), parents (including stepparents) and grandparents.
